The entire K. Renee team hopes that each of you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. It is the perfect way to kick off the beginning of Summer with a day of reflection and honor for those that have so courageously served our country and fallen before us. Memorial Day brings to light the true meaning of sacrifice and service... and for that our unending thanks and gratitude to the men and women who stand and have stood to protect our Freedom.
As we look to the week ahead and June right before us... it's now time to say "Hello Summer!"
Summer just wouldn’t be the same without corn on the cob, lazy bike rides or firing up the grill. There is nothing better than fresh vegetables from your own home garden or the Des Moines Farmers Market, a good book, a great summer time song, or a refreshing fruit drink. It is the best time of the year to turn off the television and spend some time outdoors!
From cruising in your favorite convertible to outdoor entertaining, you can step up your warm weather spirit and style with these K. Renee summer favorites...
Does your outdoor space need a lift?
A mix of graphic pillows with a pop of color gives an outdoor room a stylish, updated look. For a creative touch, you can tie together busy patterns with simple ones by using the same background color.
Get Comfortable Outside
An outdoor area rug is a great way to create a cozy and inviting living space on a deck, patio or porch. Yes, I would like to spend some time out on this deck!
Using succulents as a centerpiece in your outdoor (or indoor) living space is not only easy, but beautiful. Select a pot that compliments your décor and start planting!
To bring a fun and easy feel to your summertime table, think about the beach. A simple rattan placemat with white tableware and accents of turquoise to your table décor can add a tranquil feel to your table.
Make it Fun
Ladies night out is no place for the power purse. Go for a fun purse that reflects the season and offers a great blend of style and fun for your night out with the girls.
Summer is the perfect time of year to add a pop of bright color to your classic wardrobe pieces.
Add a POP
This LaFayette 148 lightweight leather jacket is paired with a white capri from Theory and print silk blouse from Equipment. The burst of yellow definitely gives off a summertime vibe.
Grab a Good Book
Summer would never be complete without a good book … so what's in your beach bag? Here's a few of the books that the K. Renee team will be reading...
I'm (Gina) looking forward to reading “The Day the World Came To Town: 9/11 in Gander Newfoundland,” by Jim DeFende.
Dana can be found with her nose in the book “Elements of Style: Designing a Home and a Life,” by Erin Gates.
Wendi is looking forward to getting some time to read “Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison,” by Piper Kerman.
Kelli is halfway through “Thrive,” by Arianna Huffington and loving it.
Susy is going to take on “The Goldfinch,” by Donna Tartt.
Julie has just tackled "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon.
Stacie is getting inspired by “The Motivation Manifesto,” by Brendon Burchard.
And Sherryl is intrigued by “The Girl on the Train,” by Paula Hawkins.
So while you are relaxing in the sun and reading your favorite book, there is no better way to beat the heat than with a light refreshing summertime cocktail. And you can always substitute with lemonade and lemon lime soda for a non-alcoholic version of this drink.

Add Some Easy Cotton Cashmere to your Wardrobe
Last week, we had a Joan Vass Trunk Show featuring some great cotton cashmere knitwear. The line is full of bright summer dresses, elegant travel separates and lightweight sweaters. We've been trying them on all week and loved them so much that we got permission to extend the trunk show through this Saturday, May 30.
This fit is flattering and fun! Just the kind of pieces you need to grab and go... to enjoy some summertime fun!
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the heat of the day,
