Ridiculously Amazing

January 2, 2017

I am going to start this blog by stating that 2017 is going to be ridiculously amazing!

But before I tell you my strategies for making that happen, I want to take a quick look back at 2016.  We’ve been busy!  We’ve….

Moved the clothing store to its new and beautiful location.

Produced two new commercials. (Here is one...)

Held 10 amazing clothing store trunk shows.

Wrote 52 blogs and published 210 social media posts.

Brought on board two new fabulous K. Renee team members.

Traveled to 5 major home markets and to New York 6 times for clothing market.

Had the grand opening for our design center & anniversary celebration outside (on the hottest day of the year)!

Hosted Rachel Zoe at K. Renee - arguably one of the biggest fashion moments in Des Moines history and certainly ours.

Transformed over 95 rooms throughout the Des Moines metro, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, and Illinois.

And served exactly 1000 customers (Really, it actually came up with exactly 1000 in our system report) at our home and clothing store combined!

Whew. We are so grateful to all our amazing clients who allowed us to be a part of their lives last year. THANK YOU!

Last year at this same time, I shared with you my interest in myintent.org and their “What’s Your Word?” project.  A simple challenge for each of us to choose one word for the year that best describes a passion that we want or a challenge we want to overcome.

Last year, the word I chose was ‘Joy’.  I am happy to report that at the end of 2016, I experienced more things of joy than I had in a very long time. From a great working environment with people I love to doing more things outside of work that are new and interesting with people I truly enjoy.

I did however learn that joy doesn’t just happen (unfortunately), it takes work. It meant taking the initiative to do more of what brings me joy...entertaining, going out when all I wanted to do was go to sleep, starting and finishing projects that seemed like too much work at the time but actually resulted in great joy.  Bottom line,  'living life beautifully' takes work and intention. But it's so clearly worth the effort.

And now I am ready for more and I hope you are too!   2017 is going to be ridiculously amazing. And I know that because my word this year is “magic.”

I want to experience more magic and to be a part of creating magical moments for others. I know, this word seems allusive and unobtainable but I see magical things every day.

It’s magic when you are working with a client and finding a great outfit brings about a sense of confidence that was not there a moment before.

It’s magical to see a client’s face when they walk into their home to see a room that we have transformed for the first time.

It’s magical to have an great conversation with a new or old friend, to see a great movie that transports you to another place or to read a good book that you can’t put down.  A warm day with the sun shining…magic.

I could go on and on about what is magical (at least to me) but what is more important right now is for each of you think about what will make 2017 ridiculously amazing for you.

What is your word this year? I’d love to hear it.

Say it out loud.
There is something "magical" (that word again) about saying what you want to accomplish out loud, especially when you say it to others. It makes you accountable to do what you said you were going to do...or at least try.   The first time I ran a marathon, believe me,  the ONLY reason I actually did it was because I announced my intention to a group of people.  I had to do it, right?

Look for inspiration.
Kelli says it at the end of every one of our commercials…"We promise you’ll be inspired!"  If part of your goal for 2017 is to reinvent your home space, just take a walk through our stores and you will see all sorts of possibilities. If you want to reinvent your look, take advantage of our clothing stylists whose passion is making women feel and look like a million bucks.

Take action.
With your word in hand, you can make it happen. Do something different or just slightly outside your comfort zone. Think about your word each and every day.   Let your “word” for 2017 be the driving force behind your ridiculously amazing year.

And guess what?  We have 362 new days and 362 chances to make it great!
