Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall! I know that sounds terrible doesn't it? Our kids are all back in school and college football games start next weekend. It is a clear sign that change is once again upon us. And the next time I sit down to write this blog, it will be September. Yikes.
Summer, you were wonderful and although I look forward to hanging out with you again, I am also looking forward to boots, chunky sweaters and the new season of "The Good Wife"... which by the way features Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams furniture at the offices of Lockhart Gardner. (And yes, I am mad that Will is gone too!)
Season Premiere is on Sept. 21st! Set your DVR.
The one thing that bidding goodbye to summer means is that we really need to get geared up for shorter days and longer, colder nights. I don't know about you but once the sun goes down, I am ready to curl up at home with a good book or catch up on movies that I just didn't have time for during the long days of summer.
So with that in mind, it's time to think about transitioning our homes to better suit us for nights home, festive holiday celebrations and the cool days ahead. This shift to long lazy nights doesn't mean a complete overhaul in your home, it just means finding some clever tweaks and layers to add depth and warmth to what you've already got!
We are already gearing up for the season at the home store and these are our top picks for easy and beautiful updates....
Cozy up with Pillows
Like it or not, you and your family will be spending more time indoors so being cozy and comfortable is important. These kinds of pillows emit a warm and inviting vibe to your rooms setting the perfect tone for the season.
Warm up with a Plush Throw
You may have some blankets and throws from last season that you want to use again. It's time to freshen them up byrunning them through the laundry with a delicate detergent like our Laundress products.
But as always, we have amazing throws at the home store and my favorite so far is this grey striped option. It provokes a memory of a very handsome man wearing a pin stripe suit. Nothing better than that!
Add a Layer to an Area Rug
This is a new trend in home that we really love. Layering your area rugs with an elegant hide is an easy way to not only add both comfort and texture to your floors but give you an updated look. There are no set-in-stone rules when creating this look; just make sure the bottom rug pokes out below the top rug to show off the layering effect. What an awesome look!
Bring In All The Light You Can
With daylight becoming a rare commodity, bringing a variety of light sources back into your life is extremely important. Embrace the darkness by lighting scented candles around the house. You just can beat Nest Candles and I am happy to report we have some new scents down at the home store.
Not only will they make your home smell great, they will help relieve stress and anxiety after a long day at work.
You also want to make sure that you have a variety of light sources in your home. Below is a fixture that just hit our floor. It seems to me to be the perfect reading lamp and will offer a soft ambient light to your favorite room!
Keep the Outside Inside
I'm not great with real plants inside. I am not sure why watering them is such a struggle. But it is! Which is why I absolutely love these preserved Boxwood Cone Topiaries. They are timeless and a beautiful addition for any style of home. They are a much needed reminder that once the leaves turn and the grass dies spring will once again return!
With a wink of greenery here, a bit more texture there, and the flickering of additional light sources, you will be adding some much needed mood boosting benefits throughout your home.
Don't forget to jumpstart your fall and winter wardrobe by picking up a lightweight but cozy sweater that you'll want to live in all season! I'm loving this blush V-neck from Vince. Throw it over a tee and leggings... and GO!
Have a great week ahead! Enjoy these last days of heat and summer.
