Change the Layers, Change the Room
A room can easily be given a new look by simply changing out layers such as rugs, pillows, artwork and accessories. Let's start with a basic room that consists of one sofa, two chairs, two end tables, and a coffee table.
Last year, we hosted an event "One Room, Three Ways" using these basic pieces as our base. The chairs, from our Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams collection, are a modern English style with exposed-wood trim that outlines the tall back and knee-cut arms. While the chair above features black wood trim, we custom ordered a pair for the store with an antique white-washed wood and a natural linen fabric. The 89″ sofa is clean, current and comfortably modern. We added a patchwork natural wood cocktail table with chrome legs along with two wood and steel tables. Now let the fun begin in creating different looks!
In this first look, the pillows, throw, and artwork that we used all remained neutral although each provided a different texture and pattern to give the room a comfortable and calm feeling. Even the lamps and accessories in the scene remained subtle.
We quickly redressed and rearranged the 15′ by 15′ room to show how the same furniture could easily be turned into a black and white story.
A charcoal and cream rug set the foundation for the room. And the room dramatically changed with the addition of the graphic pillows, black and white throw, as well as a variety of accessories that complimented the theme. The wall not pictured featured one of our favorite pieces of art.
The last room that we chose to demonstrate was a little more colorful.
Yes, you know we love our neutrals at K. Renee Home but we also love our pops of color. In this case, we played with purple and orange.
While most of the accessories and pillows played off of the purple palette, it only took a few pieces to pull the two colors together. This colorful orange abstract picture is a wonderful original art piece by Kelly O’Neal that certainly would bring any room to life.
We also added another interesting occasional chair to our colorful setting. This cream hair-on-hide leather with deep seating added a modern, rustic element to the room. How great is this chair?
