From Clothing to Home Market We Go!

August 10, 2015

This past week was an unusually busy week for Kelli and me as we embarked on a cross-country journey to attend a New York clothing market and a Las Vegas home market over a four-day stretch.

There is nothing better (or worse) than a 6 am flight. The good part? We arrived in New York by noon on Sunday allowing us to tackle the clothing market for the better part of the day. The bad part? Getting up at 4 am to get to the airport!

But there is this crazy energy that keeps you going all day long when you have the opportunity to see some of our favorite collections such as Rachel Zoe, Hugo Boss and Vince.

At every market we go to for either our clothing or home division, one of the main objectives is for Kelli to find new and exciting collections to bring back to our stores in Des Moines.

One new collection that we are excited to introduce this fall is TY-LR, a contemporary Australian line.

The head designer of Ty-lr, Chris Kontos, creates tailored pieces that are influential, powerful and effortless – traits that reflect the modern woman who is always inspired and forever timeless.

Expect to see pieces arriving from TY-LR this month!

Along with exploring hundreds of collections at Javits Center in New York, we had a few appointments in designer showrooms.   Sunday evening, we finished our day at the Leo & Sage work room…another exciting new line exclusively available in Iowa at K. Renee.

Leo & Sage is a modern collection of knits and ready to wear with a strong emphasis on luxury fabrication and architectural silhouettes. We had a chance to sit down with Paulline Nakios, creative director of Leo & Sage to pick out our favorite picks from her beautiful collection.

Fall knits from Leo & Sage have been arriving all week! You will absolutely want to check out this affordable luxury line.

First thing on Monday morning, our UBER driver whisked us off to our Hugo Boss showroom appointment. Yes, we are loving UBER car services. The cars are nice and it is so much easier than having to chase down a cab in NYC.

I now proudly have the UBER app on my phone!  And will be using this service in Des Moines the next time I need a ride!

Okay, back to Hugo Boss. Their showroom is always impressive and full of bold, modern womenswear.

Kelli has been coming to the BOSS showroom for years and each time I have had the pleasure of visiting this luxury line with her, we have worked with the same model who is as nice as she is beautiful. She shows us one of my many favorites…

We finished the day on Monday meeting with VINCE and reviewing their Resort and Spring Collection… and then off to the airport to fly to Las Vegas so we could attend the World Market bright and early Tuesday morning.

We usually don’t do back to back clothing and home markets, but we wanted to investigate this growing furniture and home décor market and all that it had to offer. Again, we were on a mission to find collections for the home that are beyond the ordinary.

I can always tell when Kelli is going to place an order for either store. She gets this excited look on her face and the buying begins. Here are a few things that made our heart beat fast...

This tufted sectional from Jaxon was one of Kelli’s favorites… it is so comfortable, stylish and beautiful. The leather chair below was one of mine and was selected with our gentlemen buyers in mind. The metal curves support a soft seat and cushioned backrest. The vintage distressed leather gives it a luxuriously casual vibe. So good.

Along with finding many great furniture pieces to bring back to the store, Kelli found just as many textiles and accessories that will soon make an appearance in our home store. From throws and bedding…

…To dishes that you can easily add to your own collection. These silver and gold beauties can be purchased as a set or individually to dress up your everyday white dish ware.

After two days at clothing market and two days at home market, it was time to get back on a plane and head home to Des Moines late Wednesday night.   We were exhausted but happy. It was a whole lot of traveling but worth every minute to find more great treasures that we believe will find just the right home with one of our customers.

It does take an investment of time and effort to find those items for both of our stores that are beyond the ordinary.   But the time invested is so absolutely worth it.   We hope you think so too.

 Make it an extraordinary week!
